Elizabeth Tuttle ’26 Signs to Compete in Track and Field at Yale University
Elizabeth Tuttle ’26 has officially signed to continue her academic and athletic career at Yale University, committing to compete in track and field at the prestigious Ivy League institution. A standout dual-sport athlete and musician, Tuttle was honored during a signing ceremony on Friday, Jan. 30.
Throughout her time at SPA, Tuttle has distinguished herself as one of the most accomplished student-athletes in school history, making a lasting impact across the track, the soccer field, and the performing arts. She is also an accomplished musician, earning four-time All-State honors as a violist during her SPA career. Her signing marks the continuation of a career defined by excellence, balance, and leadership.
On the track, Tuttle has built an extraordinary resume. She is a four-time school record holder in the long jump, triple jump, 100-meter hurdles, and 300-meter hurdles. A three-time Team MVP (2023–25) and three-time All-Conference honoree, Tuttle has captured three state championships, winning the 300-meter hurdles in 2024 and 2025 and the 100-meter hurdles in 2025. She also earned a state runner-up finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 2024, placed third in the long jump in 2023, and finished sixth in the hurdles that same season. In addition, Tuttle was named IMAC Athlete of the Month in 2024 and has claimed three conference titles across her career. She will serve as a team captain during the 2026 season.
Tuttle’s athletic excellence extends beyond track and field. As a member of the girls soccer program, she has been a key contributor to four state tournament appearances (2022–25), helping the Spartans win a state championship in 2023 and earn a state runner-up finish in 2022. A four-time MSHSL All-Tournament Team selection, Tuttle earned All-State honors in 2024 and 2025, was named All-Conference in 2024 and 2025, received All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2022 and 2023, and served as a team captain during the 2025 season.
For Tuttle, her experience as a Spartan has been shaped most strongly by the sense of community within SPA Athletics. “By far, the most important aspect of being a Spartan student-athlete is community,” Tuttle said.
“In my experience on the varsity soccer and track teams, community is ever-present, and it’s one of the most definitive characteristics of SPA athletics. I believe that your teammates play a big role in shaping your athletic experience, and I am immensely privileged to have such an amazing group of hard-working and motivated students to practice and compete with each day.”
She credits that support system as a driving force behind her success. “Without those who constantly push me during workouts, get food with me before and after practice, or support me during races, I would not have made it to where I am today,” she added.
Academically, Tuttle emphasized that SPA has prepared her well for the rigor of collegiate life. “The variety of electives the school offers has allowed me to explore different academic disciplines and has encouraged my intellectual curiosity,” she said. “Every teacher I’ve had goes beyond teaching; they adapt to teach me how I learn best and show genuine interest in who I am outside the classroom. I feel like my teachers know me not just as a student, but also as an athlete, a musician, a friend, and a teammate.”
Head track and field coach, cross country coach, Upper School social studies teacher, and Elizabeth’s academic advisor Ben Bollinger Danielson highlighted Tuttle’s impact as both an athlete and a teammate. He noted her rare combination of elite talent and relentless work ethic, emphasizing that she leads in understated, unspoken ways that earn the respect of those around her. According to Bollinger Danielson, Tuttle approaches training the right way and consistently flourishes because of her commitment and discipline. He shared his excitement about coaching her during her final season, noting not only the joy of working with an athlete who does everything the right way, but also the pathway she is creating for future Spartans to follow. He added that Yale provides the ideal environment for Tuttle to thrive as both a top student and a top athlete.
Upper School Athletic Director, Randy Comfort, echoed that sentiment, describing Tuttle as a true embodiment of the SPA student-athlete model. He emphasized her exceptional focus, competitive drive, and ability to find another level when it matters most. Comfort also noted that Tuttle’s signing represents SPA’s belief that students do not have to limit themselves to one identity at the expense of another. A talented scholar, musician, and elite athlete, Tuttle exemplifies the balance and intentional decision-making that define the SPA experience. Her decision to attend Yale, he shared, reflects both her academic excellence and the importance of choosing a school that is the right personal and intellectual fit.
As she prepares for her final season as a Spartan, Tuttle remains focused on gratitude, growth, and making the most of every opportunity. “This season, I am excited to continue working hard and spending time with my teammates and coaches,” she said. “I hope to create a positive, inclusive team environment while remaining focused, determined, and hardworking. I will cherish every moment I am practicing and competing because my remaining time as an SPA athlete is limited.”
Looking ahead to Yale, Tuttle plans to explore a wide range of academic interests while continuing to pursue her passion for track and field. “I have many academic interests, so I haven’t chosen a specific major yet,” she said. “While at Yale, I plan on trying a variety of classes to explore my interests and motivations. In the future, I want to make a career out of helping people and would love to stay connected to the sport of track and field, potentially as a coach.”
Tuttle’s signing represents a milestone achievement for both her and the SPA Athletics community, as she prepares to compete at the Division I and Ivy League level while continuing to exemplify what it means to be a Spartan. Congratulations, Elizabeth! Go Bulldogs!
