Ezra Cunningham Reaches 1,000 Career Points

boys basketball, 1,000 points

On Saturday, January 17, senior boys basketball co-captain Ezra Cunningham added his name to SPA basketball history by reaching a major milestone: 1,000 career points. Cunningham entered the matchup against Christ Household of Faith just six points shy of the mark, adding extra anticipation to the moment. After knocking down his first two three-pointers of the game, Cunningham surpassed the milestone as SPA earned a 73-43 victory.

Head Coach Kevin Keto said, “Ezra has been a key contributor for the last four years and has helped build SPA into a perennial contender. He was a starter on the winningest Spartan team in school history (2023–24), and he is now one of the top-10 winningest Spartans of all time with 55 varsity wins. He has grown bigger, stronger, and more skilled each year and is now one of the most versatile and effective scorers in the IMAC Conference.”

Keto continued, “Our staff is so proud of Ezra! This huge honor is well deserved because he cares deeply about basketball and has put in so much work on his individual skills over the years. It’s always rewarding to see passion and hard work pay off. With more than 15 games remaining in his Spartan career, we’re excited to see where Ezra and the rest of the senior class can take this team.”

Cunningham becomes only the fifth player to reach 1,000 career points in the past six years. The Spartans currently hold a 7-4-0 overall record and are ranked No. 2 in Section 4AA. SPA will face No. 1 Minnehaha Academy on Tuesday, January 20, at 7 p.m. at Minnehaha Academy Upper School.
