Nordic Advances to State After Dominant Section Performance
Following an outstanding showing at the Section 3A Nordic Championships on February 3, the Spartans will send a strong group of skiers to the MSHSL State Nordic Meet tomorrow at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, MN. The girls team, along with both the girls and boys sprint relay teams, earned state qualification after a dominant day of racing.
The Spartans swept the individual girls pursuit race, led by Eleanor Mody ’27, who captured the section championship. Paloma Good ’27 finished second and Sophie Kannapiran ’28 placed third, completing a clean podium sweep for SPA. Mody’s victory also secured her the pursuit championship title.
In the sprint relays, Maren Overgaard ’26 and Alyda Overgaard ’28 claimed the section title on the girls side, while the boys team of Darien Hull ’28 and Sam Hilton ’27 also earned a section championship. The boys relay combined smart race strategy with powerful skiing, as Hull secured a strong start position and avoided late-race traffic, while Hilton delivered the fastest splits in the field.
Head coach Max Lundgren praised both the conditions and the performance, noting that the girls earned a perfect team score, an accomplishment that may be unprecedented at the section level. With ideal weather and a fast course, the Spartans capitalized and delivered one of their most complete performances of the season.
The State Nordic Meet will take place over two days at Giants Ridge:
- Wednesday, February 11, 2026 – Team Sprint / Classic @ 11:00 a.m.
- Thursday, February 12, 2026 – Pursuit @ 10:00 a.m.
Go Spartans!
