Sisters Maren Overgaard ’26 and Alyda Overgaard ’28 made state meet history on Tuesday, capturing the 2026 Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Nordic Ski Racing State Championship in the girls sprint relay.
Competing on the opening day of the state meet, the Overgaard duo finished with a winning time of 14:20.30, shaving 37 seconds off their qualifying time and crossing the line nine seconds ahead of second place. The victory marked a repeat state sprint relay title for Maren Overgaard, who also claimed the championship last season.
In a story published by the MSHSL following the race, Maren reflected on the moment, “…I’ve always wanted to ski this with Alyda. It means the world to me now.” Alyda echoed that sentiment in the MSHSL story, saying, “Maren is just so talented. There is no one on the course that I trust more than her.”
The win added 159 points to the SPA girls’ team score, providing a major boost as the meet continues.
The Overgaards’ championship marks a special family moment on the state stage and capped off a standout day for the Spartans.
In that same MSHSL feature, Maren added, “This was the best part of my career,” while Alyda shared, “This will be with us forever.”
Five additional SPA skiers are set to compete later today in the individual girls’ pursuit events.
The sisters’ championship performance has drawn statewide recognition, earning coverage from the Pioneer Press, Star Tribune, and the MSHSL.
Congrats Maren and Alyda!
