SPA Announces 2023-2024 Athena Award Winner

Congratulations to senior, Aurelia Meza for being named St. Paul Academy and Summit School’s recipient of the 2024 Athena Award!

Aurelia has been a standout member of our girls’ soccer and hockey programs throughout her high school career. In soccer, she is a 4x letter winner and Varsity starter. During her time, the team has experienced a great deal of success as IMAC Conference Champions in 2021 and TWO straight State Tournament appearances in 2022 and 2023. As a captain, she led her team to a State Championship Title this past season, earned All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition, and was selected as the Spartan Spirit Award winner. She was also instrumental in the team’s 2022 State Tournament run where her lock-down defense helped the team to a State Runner-Up finish.

In hockey, Meza was a 4x letter winner and senior captain. Most recently, she was honored the team’s Defensive Player of the Year and selected to play in the 2024 Senior Classic Tournament. This event serves as an opportunity to celebrate the careers of the top senior girls in the state. She plans to play collegiate club hockey next year.

Lastly, Meza joins the girls’ lacrosse team for the 2024 season. This marks her first time ever playing the sport and further highlights her pure athleticism, dedication to the SPA Athletic Program, and exemplifies the “bravery” that the Athena Goddess possesses.

The Athena Award is given to the “outstanding senior female athlete” in each school based on excellence in individual sports or for participation and accomplishments in team sports.  Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom and Skills. She was brave and possessed the essence of all that is noble.  Legend tells us that she possessed the gifts of dignity, power, and youth, making her invincible.  Aurelia will be recognized at the St. Paul Athena Award banquet in April. Congratulations to Aurelia and all of our Athena Award finalists on such outstanding careers at SPA!
