The St. Paul Academy and Summit School Athletics Department recognized four outstanding senior student-athletes at the annual Department Award Ceremony last week, celebrating excellence in athletics, leadership, sportsmanship, and school spirit.
The department’s yearly honors include the Girls’ Athletic Bowl, French Athletic Trophy, Frenzel Boys’ Athletic Bowl, and Colonel Griggs Trophy. The prestigious awards recognize student-athletes who have made a lasting impact on Spartan athletics through their accomplishments and leadership.
Girls’ Athletic Bowl: Elizabeth Tuttle
Given to a member of the girls’ varsity teams for exceptional performance and leadership.
A dominant dual-sport athlete in both girls’ soccer and track and field, Elizabeth Tuttle leaves SPA as one of the most accomplished student-athletes in school history.
In track and field, Tuttle is a four-time school record holder in the long jump, triple jump, 100m hurdles, and 300m hurdles. She earned MVP honors three times (2023, 2024, 2025) and was a three-time All-Conference honoree. A three-time state champion, Tuttle captured the 300m hurdles title in 2024 and 2025, while also winning the 100m hurdles state championship in 2025. She added a state runner-up finish in the 100m hurdles in 2024, third place in the long jump in 2023, and sixth place in the hurdles in 2023.
Tuttle was named the 2024 IMAC Athlete of the Month and won three conference championships during her career. She also served as a team captain during her senior season and recently broke multiple school records in her final season as a Spartan.
On the soccer field, Tuttle helped lead the Spartans to a state championship in 2023 and a state runner-up finish in 2022. A four-time state tournament participant, she earned All-State honors in 2024 and 2025 and was named to the All-Tournament Team all four seasons. She also earned two All-Conference selections and two honorable mention honors during her career.
Tuttle will attend Yale University this fall, where she will compete in track and field and participate in the Yale Symphony Choir.
Frenzel Boys’ Athletic Bowl: Ezra Cunningham
Given in memory of Thomas Frenzel, Class of 1949, to a member of the boys’ varsity teams for exceptional performance and leadership.
Ezra Cunningham has been a standout leader for the boys basketball team, serving as captain for the past two seasons and helping guide one of the winningest teams in program history.
A three-time All-Conference honoree and 2025-26 Team MVP, Cunningham reached a major milestone this winter by surpassing 1,000 career varsity points. His leadership, consistency, and competitive drive helped elevate the Spartans throughout his career.
In addition to basketball, Cunningham also contributed to the baseball program, earning All-Conference honorable mention recognition earlier in his high school career.
Cunningham will continue his basketball career at the University of Jamestown this fall.
French Athletic Trophy: Clare Ryan Bradley
Presented to an older girl, in memory of Richard French ’55, for the combined qualities of sportsmanship and competitive spirit.
Clare Ryan Bradley was recognized for her exceptional leadership, sportsmanship, and versatility as a three-sport athlete at SPA.
In girls’ soccer, Bradley was a key contributor to four state tournament teams, including the 2023 state championship squad and the 2022 state runner-up team. She earned All-Conference honorable mention honors twice before receiving All-Conference and All-State recognition during her senior season. Bradley also served as a team captain and received the Spartan Award in 2025-26.
In track and field, Bradley earned multiple All-Conference honors throughout her career while serving as a captain during her final two seasons. She also competed on the girls’ basketball team, earning All-Conference honorable mention and serving as a captain.
Bradley will continue her track and field career at the University of Vermont.
Colonel Griggs Trophy: Patrick Wall
Given in memory of Chauncey Wright Griggs, Class of 1922, to an older boy for the combined qualities of sportsmanship and competitive spirit.
Patrick Wall was honored for his leadership, dedication, and sportsmanship as a three-sport student-athlete at SPA.
Wall served as a captain for both the boys’ soccer and track and field teams during his senior year. In track and field, he earned All-Conference honorable mention honors and received the Spartan Award during the 2024-25 season. He also competed on the Nordic ski team, contributing across all three programs throughout his time at SPA.
Through his commitment, leadership, and positive impact on teammates and coaches, Wall exemplified the qualities celebrated by the Colonel Griggs Trophy.
