Spartan Spring Sports Preview 2026: Track & Field, Baseball, Softball, Golf, Tennis, Volleyball, and Lacrosse

Boys Tennis
Boys Tennis enters the 2026 season after capturing its fifth consecutive Section 4A title and continuing one of the most dominant runs in program history. The Spartans return multiple state champions, including Winston Arvidson ‘28, who clinched the 2026 Singles State Championship title, and the doubles team of Isaak Senaratna ‘27 and Allan Wang ‘26, who were also crowned State Champions. Arvidson, Senaratna, and Wang will serve as captains this spring, leading a group determined to build on its success and pursue a fifth consecutive state championship.
The Spartans open their season on Thursday, April 2, at 4:30 p.m. vs. Edina at the SPA Randolph Campus Tennis Courts under new Head Coach, Jono Martin. Martin is also the SPA Girls Tennis Head Coach and was selected as the 2025 Section 4A Girls Tennis Coach of the Year,
Track & Field
Track & Field is set for another strong season after an impressive showing at last year’s state meet. Nine Spartan qualifiers clocked personal-best performances, and two Spartans captured first-place finishes across three events.
The team returns standout leadership and experience, including captains Mehmet Arey ‘26, Langston Thompson ‘27, Patrick Wall ‘26, Maren Overgaard ‘26, Clare Ryan-Bradley ‘26, and Elizabeth Tuttle ‘26. Tuttle returns as a two-time state champion after claiming the 100m and 300m hurdle titles last spring and recently signed to continue her track and field career at Yale University. Fellow returning captains Maren Overgaard ‘26 and Clare Ryan-Bradley ‘26 also bring All-Conference and All-State honors back to the lineup.
Under the new leadership of Head Coach Ben Bollinger Danielson, the Spartans look forward to building on last year’s momentum. Their first meet is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, at Roseville Area High School at 3:30 p.m.
Girls Lacrosse (Co-Op)
Girls Lacrosse continues its co-op partnership with St. Agnes, Nova Classical Academy, and St. Croix Lutheran as the program builds momentum heading into the 2026 season. Last spring, the team earned the No. 9 seed in Section 3A and battled to a thrilling 16-15 overtime game against No. 8 seed St. Paul/Two Rivers Ducks in the opening round.
The Spartans return strong leadership, including captains Dia Chaney ‘26 and Audrey Peltier ‘27. Chaney is a returning 2025 captain and All-Conference honoree.
The Spartans open play on Wednesday, April 15, at 5:30 p.m. vs. Tartan Senior at SPA Lang Field under Head Coach Madisen Myers.
Boys Lacrosse (Co-Op)
Boys Lacrosse competes as part of the Blackhawks co-op hosted at Minnehaha Academy, alongside Concordia Academy, DeLaSalle, St. Agnes, South St. Paul, and St. Croix Lutheran. Last spring, the Blackhawks earned the No. 8 seed in Section 3A and fell in a narrow 13-12 contest to No. 9 seed Eagan in the opening round.
The team returns strong leadership in captain Richard Romans ‘27, an All-Conference honoree who will help guide the Blackhawks into the 2026 season.
Under Head Coach Ben MacLean, the Blackhawks open play on Friday, April 10, at 7:00 p.m. vs. St. Paul/Two Rivers at Minnehaha Academy Upper School Campus.
Girls Golf
Girls Golf returns strong leadership and postseason experience heading into the 2026 season. Captains Alyda Overgaard ‘28 and Peony Steele ‘27 both earned All-Conference recognition last spring, with Steele named All-Conference and Overgaard receiving All-Conference Honorable Mention honors.
Under Head Coach Angie Kritta, the Spartans open their season on Tuesday, April 21, at 4:00 p.m. vs. New Life Academy of Woodbury at Eagle Valley Golf Course.
Boys Golf
Boys Golf enters the 2026 season after graduating a few key contributors from last year’s lineup. The Spartans return captain Quentin Sentz ‘27, who advanced to Day 2 of the Section 4AA competition and brings valuable postseason experience back to the group.
The Spartans open their season on Thursday, April 23, at 4:00 p.m. vs. Mounds Park Academy at Dellwood Country Club. Colton Werner will lead the team in his first year as head coach.
Softball (Co-Op)
Softball enters its third year in a co-op hosted by Minnehaha Academy. Last season, they earned the No. 8 seed in Section 4AAA and faced No. 1 seed Cretin-Derham Hall in the opening round. The team finished with a 1-14 overall record while continuing to build within the growing co-op program.
Under the direction of Head Coach Megan Thurow, the Redhawks open their 2026 season on Wednesday, April 1, at 4:30 p.m. vs. Como Park at the SPA Randolph Campus.
Baseball
Baseball enters its first season under Head Coach Tal Gravelle after finishing 6-13 overall last spring and advancing to the Section 4AA tournament, where the Spartans fell to No. 6 seed St. Croix Lutheran Academy in the opening round.
The team returns strong leadership, including captains Cutler Crook ‘26, John Grimsrud ‘27, and James Welsh ‘26. Crook is a returning 2025 captain and All-Conference honoree.
The Spartans open their season on Friday, April 10, at 4:30 p.m. vs. St. Croix Prep at the SPA – Randolph Campus Varsity Baseball Field.
Boys Volleyball (Co-Op)
Boys Volleyball marks an exciting new addition to the spring lineup as SPA joins a cooperative program with Cretin-Derham Hall (CDH) beginning spring 2026. The new partnership gives SPA student-athletes the opportunity to compete at the varsity level in one of Minnesota’s fastest-growing high school sports.
The co-op team will begin its season on March 16, with the first competition scheduled for March 31. The program is led by CDH Head Coaches Daniel Willaert and Michael Urdahl. Register here.
